ATLPICS.NET

The Problem
Client has built a solid business on event photography and is the largest source of consumer traffic on SmugMug but, their current site didn't represent or market the right image.  Needless to say that's what happems when you work with an amateur designer because of cost concerns, cheap is what cheap does.  Usability and style was the biggest issue along with lack of branding and navigation on SmugMug.

The Solution
This time around, they wanted to avoid previous pitfalls and invest more in to turning their web presence into a marketing and commerce vehicle.  As I have pointed out to most prospects who fail to exploit a large amount of traffic and user data, they need to upgrade to a portal system and supply relevant content that supports a community with feedback loops and room for performance marketing capabilities.  I architected and deployed a solution on dedicated hardware with targeted advertising, blogs, forums, and back-end administration features, as well as others they will find beneficial as their company grows.  Redesigned and customized the DNN presentation layer and modified the DNN framework.  Put in more horsepower with SQL Server 2005 and a blend of custom ASP.NET, Flash, JavaScript, Flex, CSS, XSLT, RSS, and XML.  Also used the same skin elements for rebranding their SmugMug presence.  Built and programmed radio and video lounge with object oriented Flash components as well as supplied music and aggregated video content.  This is the archetype for a Web 2.0 solution.

The Result

Client now has a more professional presense, consistency across all applications and a site that's more user friendly.  Traffic and ad revenue has increased 400% without any additional marketing and averages 5.5 million page views a month since launch.  They are well on their way to getting a full return on this project's investment.

Client needed a presentation to stand out in an already oversaturated market and I delivered.  Heavy audio effects, animation and video to make it a fun interface.  Design and layout in Photoshop, then developed in Flash.
